SOUTHWAY Studio

FR / Southway Studio est fondé en 2018 par Emmanuelle Luciani, historienne de l’art, artiste et curator depuis 2010. Le studio est un écosystème de production, d’exposition, d’œuvres d’art et de résidence.

Projet mouvant et contextuel, Southway Studio convoque les imaginaires issus de l’histoire de l’art et de la pop culture pour créer des bulles temporelles. Le football, le tuning automobile, les arts décoratifs, le high and low américain ou encore l’ère médiévale constituent le ferment de ces univers hybrides. Cette somme de références, partagées par les artistes qui travaillent avec le studio, est la matrice de fantasmes visuels, où formes, motifs et sujets sont sans cesse réinventés.

Le studio, depuis le Pavillon Southway, projet domestique et lieu d’exposition, fait rayonner une création contemporaine marseillaise au-delà des clichés et des leitmotivs visuels que l’on attribue au sud. À travers des expositions d’importance comme Cool as a State of Mind (2013), Les Chemins du Sud (2019), Anima Mundi (2020) ou Uncanny Depths (2022), Southway Studio démontre la possibilité de proposer une création contemporaine hors capitale, ambitieuse et transversale.

EN / Southway Studio was founded in 2018 by Emmanuelle Luciani, an art historian, artist, and curator since 2010. The studio is an ecosystem of exhibition production, artworks, and residency.

A moving, contextual project, Southway Studio conjures up images derived from art history and pop culture to create meridian instances. Football, Car pimping, Decorative arts, High and Low American postmodernism, and the Medieval era are the core elements of these hybrid universes. These references, shared by the artists who work with the studio, are the template for visual fantasies in which forms, motifs, and subjects are constantly reinvented.

The studio, through the Pavillon Southway: a domestic project and exhibition space, has been promoting contemporary art from Marseille that goes beyond the clichés and visual leitmotivs attributed to the south. Through major exhibitions such as Cool as a State of Mind (2013), Les Chemins du Sud (2019), Anima Mundi (2020), and Uncanny Depths (2022), Southway Studio is demonstrating the potential for ambitious, cross-disciplinary contemporary art outside the French capital.
